Madame Fortuna is the alter ego of Allison Nowlin Ward. Born in Memphis, TN and raised in flea markets, on farms in the Mississippi Delta and in a home renovation project she learned to love and appreciate all things old. Brought up around antiques, eclectic tastes and eccentric attitudes her love of the unusual fostered a creative streak that continues to flourish. Off to New York at 18 to study photography, then down to New Orleans to really learn how to celebrate life. Back to New York for friends and career. After working at the Wall Street Journal and opening her own vintage boutique, Fortuna, it was time to head south again...

During the current southern sabbatical her vision for her second collection, RELIC was complete... or as complete as an open ended idea can be. Wandering the woods, strolling the riverbanks, meandering down country roads there are endless opportunities for discovery.

Madame Fortuna does create collections but they are based on inspiration and not limited to a seasonal schedule.

Everything depends on what is found or what is experienced, what is read, heard, viewed, felt, smelled etc... Anything can spark an idea, sometimes it can be created the same day or take months of experimenting to get it right.

By creating one of a kind pieces that are glamorous, eccentric, unusual, quirky, romantic, nostalgic, surprising and inspiring all at the same time Madame Fortuna wants to encourage the wearer to push the boundaries, experiment and have fun with your daily "costumes!" We only have one life so why not have fun with fashion and identity. We may not all be able to own a grand antebellum mansion but we can sure dress like we do! Look to the greats... Coco Chanel, Isadora Duncan, Josephine Baker, Zelda Fitzgerald, Nancy Cunard and on and on. Unique women who were unafraid to create a spectacle... they lived to create spectacles! Madame Fortuna women are individuals who lead rather than follow, who dream big, play hard and seek to inspire others.
